چکیده

Our main contributions in this paper are twofold. In the first instance, we demonstrate how H K surface labelling can be realised using dictionary-based probabilistic relaxation. To facilitate this implementation we have developed a dictionary of feasible surface-label configurations. These configurations observe certain constraints on the contiguity of elliptic and hyperbolic regions, and, on the continuity and thinness of parabolic lines. The second contribution is to develop a statistical model which allows the relaxation scheme to be initialised using the probabilities of the different H K labels. These probabilities model the assignment of curvature classes using surface normal information. They also capture uncertainties in the computation of surface curvature through the propagation of variance in the surface normal measurements.

Automatically Localizing Discontinuities during Surface Reconstruction

This paper describes an extension to a class of surface reconstruction algorithms based on the minimization of variation of curvature, the so-called curvature consistency framework. It deals explicitly with the problem of localizing surface discontinuities, which was one of the shortcomings of the original work. Inter-pixel interactions during the variational relaxation based smoothing process ...

A Novel Method for Surface Mesh Smoothing: Applications in Biomedical Modeling

In this paper, we present a surface-fitting based smoothing algorithm for discrete, general-purpose mesh models. The surface patch around a mesh vertex is defined in a local coordinate system and fitted with a quadratic polynomial function. An initial mesh smoothing is achieved by projecting each vertex onto the fitted surface. At each vertex of the initial mesh, the curvature is estimated and ...

Relaxation Scheme plication to Edge Detection

This paper presents a new scheme for probabilistic relaxation labeling that consists of an update function and a dictionary construction method. The nonlinear update function is derived from Markov Random Field theory and Bayes’ formula. The method combines evidence from neighboring label assignments and eliminates label ambiguity efficiently. This result is important for a variety of image pro...

Application of surface-derived attributes in determining boundaries of potential-field sources

This paper describes an edge detection method based on surface-derived attributes. The surface-derived attributes are widely used in the interpretation ofseismic datain two main categories: (1) derivative attributes including the dip angle and the azimuth; (2) derivative attributes including curvature attributes.    In general, the magnitude of the normal curvature of a surface (curvature attri...

Simple finite field method for calculation of static and dynamic vibrational hyperpolarizabilities: Curvature contributions

In the static field limit, the vibrational hyperpolarizability consists of two contributions due to: ~1! the shift in the equilibrium geometry ~known as nuclear relaxation!, and ~2! the change in the shape of the potential energy surface ~known as curvature!. Simple finite field methods have previously been developed for evaluating these static field contributions and also for determining the e...
